How to Read My Meter

Your meter is a precision instrument which measures the amount of water or electricity you use. Once a month, one of our meter readers reads the dials on your meter to determine your electricity or water usage. It is essential that our meter which is recording your electricity usage be accessible to the GEBE’s authorized personnel. On the face of the meter you see the round dials. Each dial has six numbers for water and five for electricity. The pointers turn only when electricity and water is being used, and they turn so slowly that you can hardly see them move. The numbers on the dials do not rotate in the same direction. You should read the dials from Left to Right. It is important that you write the numbers down in the same sequence.

Reading your meter is the way to find out how much electricity you used and also the basis for how much you will have to pay for the kWh used. Deduct the previous reading from the reading on the display meter to determine the number of kilowatt-hours of electricity used.
